18 Apr 4 GREAT reasons to add a shed to your life
If you’ve ever looked at a property with a nice garden and a shed, you’ve probably thought it would be handy to have one.
Even if you only need to store a lawn mower, some garden tools, and spare flowerpots, it’s much better to have a garden shed for that, rather than having them in the back corner of the garage or even in the laundry.
But if you’ve never actually had your own shed, you don’t know what you’re missing.
A shed can greatly enhance your life, whether you’re an avid gardener or not.
Extra, dedicated storage space
No matter your lifestyle, chances are you’ve accumulated “stuff” over the years. We all know it’s much easier to keep gathering more things than to do a cull and get rid of things.
For a lot of us, the top shelves of cupboards and wardrobe bulkheads are pretty full.
For stuff we don’t use very often, it not only becomes hard to keep track of just where it is, but we usually have to move a heap of other rarely-needed stuff to even find what we suddenly need for the first time in ages.
Not when you have a shed with shelves, hooks, and drawers that are there precisely for this purpose. The camping stuff goes there, the sports stuff there, and even the bags and suitcases have a home for the 11 months they’re not in use.
A separate home office
If you work from home or run your own business, it can be hard to knuckle down for hours at a time when you’re in the same space that you relax in when you’re not working.
It’s all too easy to drift between the “I’m working” and “I’m at home” mindsets, not to mention that you can be distracted by family when you should be working and by work when you should be spending quality time with the family.
Now imagine closing the door to the house behind you, walking a few steps, then opening the door to a dedicated workspace, laid out with the things you need to be productive.
Keeping work and home life separate is a boon – and there’s no chance of the kids spilling their chocolate milk on something you’ve spent hours getting right.
A place to be creative
Whether you’re a musician, photographer, artist, or the crafty type, there’s nothing better than having your own studio.
The instruments of your creativity – be they canvases and paints, or glues, sharp blades and bits of material – can be safely left where they are, so you can pick up where you left off.
You can also have multiple projects on the go at the same time.
Imagine the joy of being able to do your own thing whenever you have time without having to clear it all off the table at dinner time.
Keeping fit
Not everyone appreciates having an exercise bike in the bedroom or living room … although it can be a handy place to hang wet clothes.
If your housemates don’t love the noises (and odours) you emit while working out, spare them – and spare yourself the embarrassment.
You can even add some mirrors to keep an eye on your form, just like they have at those fancy gyms!
Whatever you need a bit of space for, a shed is well worth looking into.
