04 Oct Why spring cleaning and getting a shed go hand-in-hand
We know winter’s over because the footy’s finished … and congratulations to Richmond and Melbourne Storm and every club across Australia that won a premiership.
That means that not only is spring here, but some of us have some weekends ahead freed up after six months of pulling on the boots and running around on a field with our mates, or going along to cheer on our favourite team.
You wouldn’t believe it, but we’ve got a great idea for something to do on at least one of those upcoming weekends…
What’s spring cleaning all about?
Have you ever wondered where the concept of ‘spring cleaning’ came from? We did, and we found quite a few possible explanations, some based on religions or ancient cultures, and some that just seemed like common sense.
Before the advent of the vacuum cleaner, the start of spring was the best time for giving the house a thorough dusting.
It was also the time of year that people stopped using their household furnaces and open fires, so they could wash the soot from walls, furniture, and fittings, and hang big things like curtains and blankets out to dry in the sun and wind.
Meanwhile the house could be aired out with a bit of a breeze passing through, but none of the insects that tend to come along a bit later.
Regardless, to this day many people actually look forward to the ritual, as it does mark the somewhat joyful coming out of winter into the sunnier months.
Why not do more than just clean?
Like a lot of things, spring cleaning can be looked at as either a chore or as a bit of short-term pain for long-term gain.
We like to think of it as an opportunity to see your home at its best. Once you’ve done a good clean, put away a few things that have just been left lying around for months, and rearranged some odds and ends, it’s almost like you’re in a new place.
That’s where a shed comes in.
By adding an awesome Stilla shed to your backyard, you can double that feeling of having a whole new home.
You can store more of the things that you don’t use very often out of the way, making more room in cupboards, and you can organise the things you need seasonally so that they’re easy to access when you need them again.
Getting a shed is the ideal way to do a thorough ‘decluttering’ of your home (in fact we wrote this post – The secret to decluttering: a shed – to tell you how).
You’ll feel like you’re in a new home
Everyone who gets a new shed is pleasantly surprised at how nice it is to spend time in and around it, and how much happier they are when out in their backyard.
Especially if you’re replacing a smaller, older shed, you’ll want to show it off by having people over for a spring or summer barbecue.
Is there anything better than feeling proud of and satisfied with the home you’ve made for your family?
Now’s the time to get onto it.
Next weekend, choose your Stilla shed from our range.
The following weekend, build your shed.
Then, in a couple of weeks, you’ll have the most fun spring cleaning you’ll ever have.
